July 8

According to the little calendar I keep it was very humid and 78 degrees at 5:30 am last year. This year humidity has got to be greater but the temp at 5:30 was only 70. Rain is in the forecast but it doesn't look rainy at this time.

The painters were here yesterday. They have the house finished and only have the 200 feet of railings, the deck and dock surfaces to do. I'll bet they'll be here today in spite of the forecast. This guy is a different breed being a lifetime resident of the area. He is going to be forty right shortly but the big thing is he works. If the weather doesn't look very good he will call and discuss with you if he will be here to paint or not. He provided all the materials and paint for the job yet he didn't ask for any money up front. After Most of the house was finished he did ask for a modest draw on the debt. I would recommend him to anyone that needs something painted or a deck treated. He does good work! Ken Dinwiddie 573-392-1927.

Took my chain saw and cutter to the woods yesterday. I sprayed some Off on my shoes, socks and pant legs. Believe it or not I have not found one tick lost among any of the many skin folds of my body. I guess my rear end doesn't weigh anything because I worked it off yet failed to lose any weight. If things work out I'll give it another try today.

Next is a portion of an email we received. It has been around several times but the message is still excellent!

"We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die. We have so many people walking around who are dead and don't even know it! There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don't do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight. Anybody can grow older, that doesn't take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding opportunity in change. Have no regrets. The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets."------------87 year old Rose.

Old and worn, I can still roam these hills and climb the steps. I'm doing it slower now but that gives me a chance to see things that I used to rush past. I walk smarter now too. If I want something that is upstairs or in the garage I put it on a list in my head then when the list gets several things on it I make one trip do it all. There is always the chance I'll catch Glenda making a trip and she can bring me my want. Getting old, one can never know how many trips he has left so I try not to use any more than necessary.
