September 18

The wall is coming along real well. Yesterday we put down 86 blocks and it was a shorter day than the day before which was shorter than the day before that. It was also easier. Seems like every day it gets easier. It is almost becoming as enjoyable as we thought it would be. On a job such as this the "one day at a time" phrase is one that you have got to embrace. No way to do it in only one day and there are a few small complications each day that might change the lay out somewhat but we're coming along just fine.

The aches and pains are becoming common enough that I believe none of us hardly notices them anymore. One reoccurring problem is with the shoulder of our workaholic neighbor, engineer, operator, foreman, estimator, truck driver, job superintendent, main laborer, lead man and instructor. He has a real problem with what I suspect, is a torn rotator cup that becomes so swollen and sore that he has about resigned his main laborer title for mainly the supervisory position. Even then, he takes time for quite a bit of labor. Seems he can still swing his arm which allows him to still do things like swing a hammer, lift a block, drag around and lift corrugated culverts and even use a shovel. Things slow down a bit when he is in the supervisory position. If we can just keep him there or at the engineering, operating, truck driver, or instructing we'll have an easier day.
