January 14

Surprise, surprise, woke up to another cold day of clouds and a breeze with a slim chance of some moisture. With the dark skies I think the fish have their ups mixed up with their downs and may be swimming with the wrong side up. At least that is all I can figure out why they aren't biting. The cold could be a factor too I guess.

Fishing is an okay activity but I doubt many would keep at it very long if something took out all their hope and stomped on it leaving nothing but a raw place. I'm pretty sure that the hope of catching one of the rangy little things is what keeps me casting. Unfortunately, after one hundred ninety seven casts this morning, without even a nudge, I've been fairly well stripped of any hope there. Funny how a man can sit around for a few days or maybe hours and hope finds someway to seep back into the old cranium.

Well, so we didn't have the sun this morning nor the moon last night but I think we were allowed a glimpse of the sun just awhile ago if we had been paying attention. Paying would be the first clue to why I missed it. Our social security checks won't stretch and my IRA is suffering to such a degree that anything with the word pay is deemed to suffer also. I have overspent a few times in my life and as best as I remember I was told that one day I would pay for that................ I thought paying for it at the time would suffice but alas, I was wrong, I do believe I'm paying for it again! This time it seems so much harder!

Well, you don't tug on Superman's cape, you don't spit into the wind. You don't pull on the mask of old Lone Ranger and you don't mess around with Jim. (I just liked it and noticed some free space is why.)

Got to, got to, got to, got to go in to Eldon today. Gee, with gas so high and the talk of it getting higher it is a hard thing to accept and pretty hard to type. Seeing it written makes the thought even more scary. Nothing wrong with being poor unless you want something. A thing just because we want it has been an un-listable item on our shopping lists for a very long time. For us and a lot of folks, it has always been a fairly common thing that if you succumb to the desire for a want you are forced to give something else up. Our biggest expenditures are for food, electricity, taxes, insurance, insurance and insurance. I don't think we can give up any of these. I suppose we could cut back some on the food.....HEY! HEY! We don't want to go there!

Nothing else on my mind.....Actually the above wasn't really on my mind. I just sat down here and dug around in the furrows to come up with it. No sin in confessing to what is so plainly visible either.
