The trip to Boonville wasn't all that bad nor very costly. Of course the free room and free meals weren't but all in all it was still a bargain. But........."a bargain for a bargains sake is no bargain at all" and we don't plan on taking advantage of that kind of bargain again in the very near future. I've been taught once again to never say never. With Dory as my teacher it does look like the innumerable lessons she has given me would have taken hold long before now but I can only hope I don't slip up again.

Dory and I discussed trading meal partners but the flow seemed to indicate we should stay the original course so we did. Lena's birthday feed that I accompanied her to was more or less as expected. A large room with quite a few people that all sat down to a tiny salad and a small piece of cake of some kind. Looked like a lot of folks were as hungry as I was because I wasn't near the only one that ate the salad and then the cake while waiting for the meal. The meal was carried out under the silver covered domes as I expected and consisted of a dash of green beans, a glob of mashed sweet potatoes and a couple slices of some kind of pork, all of which was cold of course. My choice of dishes would never include any of the three but I ate every bite including one of Lena's pork slices.

Dory and I had made the decision to stick to the original eating plan long before we discovered that the steak place wasn't open on Mondays. Dory and Pat ended up eating in the buffet while Lena and I had a real meal, so to speak. This happening created the theory that luck was with me in spite of the menu of our meal. Unfortunately, a couple minutes back at the machines, reality jumped in and literally painfully beat that crappy theory out of my head through my back pocket.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. But, in practice, there is. — Jan van de Snepscheut
