May 19

Seems like all kinds of birds want to use the Purple Martin bird house on our dock but yesterday morning took the cake. As I was getting our coffee I looked out the kitchen window as usual but observed a very unusual sight. A duck was sitting on top of the bird house! I'm pretty sure it wasn't checking it out for a nesting place, more like checking out what so many birds found so interesting. Odd it may be.

Odd might not be is the fact that after spending several hours Saturday and a good part of yesterday sweating and laboring, helping our neighbor's Struebbe to take down and then rebuild a large portion of their concrete block wall, I gained a pound. Shoot, I could take a whiff of a sweet smelling flower and gain half a pound anytime.

Today, if our company, (nieces and family's) doesn't come, it will be back to the wall for me. If the good Lord is willing and the creeks don't rise we should finish it up today. I think I mean finish the wall and not finish my back but all kinds of possibilities abound when you're old and retired.

We've got the lawn to mow again, ivy and bushes to trim and a general blowing off debris from the road, porches and walks but that may need to wait another day.
