May 31

An accident, an unexpected and undesirable event, is a known but mostly ignored possibility in everyone's everyday life and this is a fact. Most always, after one has occurred, we look back and can pretty much see how we might have avoided the depressing happening but it's too late then.

Sad to say, our industrious work obsessed neighbor, Dale, has been lying in the hospital since last evening waiting for the treatment of a broken hip. He was in New Haven on a ladder installing a new garage door when the tool he was using did something unexpected causing Dale to fall from the ladder. A hip replacement or hip repair will be determined after they go in to look at the damage sometime this morning.

We talked with him this morning, tho he didn't seem very happy we weren't able to detect much sadness either. This, in all probability, was due to the morphine they've been giving him.

I expect him to be out of commission for some time to come and his lawn down here needs to be mowed now. Wonder who might take care of that little chore? I've got two strong arms/legs, I can help. You bet'cha.

The best that we can do is to be kindly and helpful toward our friends and fellow passengers who are clinging to the same speck of dirt while we are drifting side by side to our common doom. -Clarence Darrow
