August 2

Today sounds like it is going to be a lot like yesterday but probably worst. A really wet day. Nope, we didn't get any rain here but with the heat and high humidity, just being outside for a few minutes would make you completely wet. Today the heat index will be in the triple digits. I'm not sure that a jogger couldn't come down with pneumonia sucking in all that moisture laden air. What do I know? I know I'll probably not be jogging for one thing.

Keep hearing about all the people without jobs or money but there are always plenty of shoppers at all the stores. I guess looking doesn't cost much but to get there is a huge expense in this day and time. Welfare money I guess. We've been thinking about looking into a little of it for ourselves.

I can't help but still feel a little jealous when I see all the overweight people in Eldon smoking four dollar a pack cigarettes, eating a Big Mac with the super sized fries and soda then throwing half of it away as they go out the door, at least what they didn't slop around and drop on the floor around their table.

There we sit eating our 99 cent double cheese, washing it down with a free glass of water realizing most everyone has more money than we do. Makes me think the stuff was bought with welfare money. You know the cost couldn't be coming out of hard work earned money, only from gift money, if for no other reason than they super size everything then throw so much of it away. As they leave with an extra push on the accelerator squalling the tires I wonder if they've found a way to get their tires and gas paid for too.

After giving some thought to the subject I've decided it must be the extra benefits created by the births of the children. They always seem to have three of four with them. Don't guess Mikey and Tomi wouldn't help us much there and at our age................"Go forth and multiply"?

A dollar picked up in the road is more satisfaction to us than the 99 which we had to work for, and the money won at Faro or in the stock market snuggles into our hearts in the same way.-Mark Twain
