Above our garage the guys dug a 4'x30" trench for the pipe that will hold the electric wires. The trench runs across the end of the road toward us. They backfilled with crushed rock then some of the dug out material and topped that with more crushed rock. They broke through solid rock to do this. A lot of water crosses this covered trench at every rain. Crushed rock creates a very porous condition which allows surface water to drain to new depths. The new depths seem to have found a formally never used path to our house and into our basement for the first time in our fifteen years living here. JF Electric still accepts no blame what-so-ever in the ruination of $3600 worth of carpet.
The guy from AmerenUE came yesterday and after much talk and pointing suggested digging out the trench again and building a couple of concrete barriers. I didn't understand exactly but if it helps keep the water out of the basement I'm all for it. Just a 2" rain the other day had water running big time out of the side of the hill and the two outlets under the garage.
His volunteering this repair makes me believe that he might be acknowledging that JF Electric, in part at least, participated in our mess. JF Electric still accepts no blame what-so-ever in the ruination of $3600 worth of carpet. BUT, IT AIN'T OVER TILL IT'S OVER!
