Sept. 25

I've been stung many times during all my years but a couple of those years back I had a reaction to a black wasp sting on my belly. Long after the sting, when I was upset or distressed the place where I was stung would begin to itch. It was many months after the sting before the problem itch went away.

Next time I was stung by a wasp on the hand which caused my whole arm to swell and it was several days before that went down. Then the big one! While clearing brush on the hill I got into a yellow jacket nest. Only one sting and it was on the very top of my head. My palms began to itch uncontrollably and my eyes and lips began to swell. I turned into a mess in a very short time. Dory gave me a couple benadryl but things continued to worsen so off to the emergency room we went.

They took me right in, laid me down and stuck an IV into my arm. Don't know what was flowing through the needle but it sure did the trick. They told me that any future stings would probably cause a more severe reaction. I didn't even get upset with the $672.00 cost. Might be because the insurance paid for it but I don't think so.

This spring I grabbed the door knob to the garage door and included in the grab a wasp. Stung me pretty good so into the house for a couple benadryl and a seat on the recliner to see if anything else might be required. My palms began to itch but not too bad. After an hour things turned pretty well back to normal.

Couple months ago while trimming the ivy along the front of the porch I knocked down a hornet's nest. Pissed off a bunch of flyers so kicked up my heels and left the area. Shouldn't kicked so high as one caught me and stung me on the ankle. Into the house, 2 benadryl and a rest in the recliner to await the swelling. No swelling at all........go figure.

Three days ago I was again trimming the ivy when I noticed lots of flying bees that turned out to be yellow jackets. I got some wasp spray and from about five feet away began dowsing the area and bee hole. Ran out of spray and as I turned and headed to the house I got stung twice on my right rear cheek. Man, I was slappin and movin but too slow I guess as I got stung twice more on the back of my leg just below my right rear cheek. Finally got into the house and asked Glenda for a couple benadryl. While standing there waiting I got stung again just above my left knee. I jerked the leg of my shorts up and saw a wasp. Out of those shorts in a flash! Shook the wasp out and killed it and checked for any more. As near as I can tell it I think that wasps went up my shorts leg and was probably responsible for all five of my stings.

I took the benadryl and sat in the recliner for over an hour and every so often it felt like one of the stings got stung again. I'm tired typing so I'll just tell you that five stings and no adverse reaction other than the singing stings was one huge huge blessing. Maybe my body has whipped the allergy?
