Now about this mornings walk. On the first round my head mounted LED lights showed me a reflection of a couple eyes looking at me from the woods off W Oak. I had the big spotlight with me and promptly turned it on only to see the eyes move on before I could see a bulk. Thought they glowed high enough to be a deer and as I got to Y19 got to see a little buck deer for conformation.
On up the road to K and just before Memory Lane I used the spot to watch a fox meander across the road in front of me. I spoke to it and must have said something it didn't like because it sped up and went down Memory Lane. Hey, that is the road I use. Anyway didn't see the fox again.
On the second time around, just before I got to the lowest part of my walk, a terrible scream aired from the woods on the hill just to the left of the road I was going to be climbing. That scream stood the hair up on my neck and put a big pause in my step. The second scream stopped me completely and stood all the hair on my body straight out! T
he spotlight couldn't pick out any eyes or body but a tiny little hoot hoot convinced me that I had just heard my first screech owl screech. My hairs laid back down and I walked on.
I must say that if you would like to temporarily tighten your skin, find a very scary thing that will stand all your body hair straight out.
Still on round two as I walked up Y19 I discovered that the thrills for today's walk weren't over. My LED's picked up the reflection of a pair of eyes coming down the road right at me and they weren't just moseying along either. I quickly turned the spotlight on the whatever and illuminated a black thing that kept coming. As it got closer I was able to make out that it was a dog so I began talking to it. Nice doggy, nice doggy. I don't know if it was the words I used or the higher pitch begging tone of them, but the dog turned and headed back the way it had come. As it went into the woods up the road a ways I did notice it had a red collar on. Feeling better about the meeting I tried to call the dog to me but never saw it again.
The third time around, the only excitement that occurred was gleaned from the knowledge that this was the last round today. JUST LOVE THOSE WALKS!
