The stay at home day yesterday was great! We did take the walk but Glenda and Mikey only stayed with me for a little more than half of the whole walk. Well, I guess their walk was a whole one for them! What's wrong with me.

Glenda cooked a pork roast and invited the Mongomery's to a, later in the evening meal, but their schedule for the day had already been filled. That left us with quite a few leftovers. Not a dad blame thing wrong with leftovers......Unless you might be referring to my body.

After I put on my pants and belt them down, there are a lot of leftovers that hang over protecting my belt buckle from all the elements. I figured out one time that if I turned around fast enough I could leave all that behind me. It worked for almost a tenth of a second, but man, when it caught up, it liked to put me into a spin. I thought that I was able to contain the energy generated by all that moving mass, but now I'm thinking it may be what is fueling the useless thoughts that I type.......As in spin. (Glenda thought I had better add that so others could catch the little play there.)

Today is beautiful as was yesterday. Shirtless would have been okay for the walk yesterday, but I need a haircut pretty badly and worried that I could cause an accident. My large chest, along with the too much hair, some drivers might mistake me as a topless she. That could cause a loss of attention of their driving resulting in an accident. After further thought about it this morning I should have went topless. An accident is usually a mistake and anytime I come our ahead on anything is when there has been a mistake somewhere. I am having a problem trying to figure out how I could win because of someone else's automobile accident. I guessXXXX No, I hope I'll never know.

Only a couple of stops on our list for this day, Joker's Wild for $10 and Sam's Town for another $10. If we could keep from sticking a coin into a machine it could be a profitable day.

Where oh where have the little thoughts gone? I've had them missing for several years now yet that problem hasn't stopped me from typing this big bluff and sending it nearly everyday. Maybe I never ever had any original thoughts. Maybe no one really has. I'm thinking about the only way one could have an original thought might be, if after birth they were kept in a sound proof room with a feeding tube stuck thru a hole. No TV, radio and no commutations with the outside what-so-ever. Now any thoughts might be original. Wait! There could be a problem with that! In knowing nothing, what could they think about. Humm.

Humm. Uncle Carl came up to me in the Fiesta just as I checked out of a nickel machine with $3. As we talked I stuck it back into a different machine. While talking with him and not paying much attention to the playing of the machine I hit several pays and then four jacks for 125 coins. I did take the time to look down at the dollar meter and it was really racking up. When it finally quit I was astounded at the $38 amount that was registered. After further checking I discover that I had accidentally been playing quarters instead of nickels on the multi-denomination machine. At that time I was pretty glad for the error. We were getting ready to leave so I kicked it back to nickels where I thought it was in the beginning. I was going to run it down to $35 then quit. Much to my horror, after just a few pulls it hit four aces for 400 coins! That $20 hit could have been $100 if I had still been in the mistake mode! I did finally check out with $53 anyway which still isn't too bad in my book.

What pains me is, it seems to be true that anytime I win at anything, there must have been a mistake made somewhere in the course of events!

Today is 'home' day. Yippee! Take the walk, read a book and watch the NASCAR race. All this while saving money. Of course there is that lingering thought that says we might be missing a huge win somewhere too.

Not a whole lot of shaking going on here! That is if I stay sitting. Otherwise there is lots of action. Like when I take the walk.....You might think that a large mid-section along with my oversized chest would be a handicap but just the opposite is true after the first several steps. I've learned how to get the stuff bouncing in such a manner that as the mass rises it assists in bringing up a leg and foot then as the forward move continues it helps to put the other foot down and at the same time it begins the helping of bringing the other up again. It may not be a complete self-perpetual motion but it's close. Kinda of like a countershaft on a flywheel. At least it cuts down on the energy required to bring them up and put them down after I get it all in motion and traveling at the proper speed.

Even the wattle on my neck gets to swaying to one side then the other with such a strong swing that it keeps my head turning back and forth enabling me to scour the area that I'm walking for any kind of valuables that might lay in or near my path. All this with practically no energy expenditures on my part.

The bad part of the whole deal happens when I stop. It doesn't hurt too much physically but if there happens to be anyone watching it's very embarrassing. After a stop it takes the bounce of the masses and the wattle swing several seconds to catch up. There I stand in one spot, with all that stuff still bouncing up and down continuing to pump my legs up and down somewhat and the wattle sway keeping my head swinging from one side to the other. All that makes me look like a person needing to go very, very badly looking feverishly for a place to squat pronto. Well, I guess it could be looked at as a dance of sorts. You know, a guy dancing to his own drummer. "It don't mean a thing, if you ain't got the swing".

Hey, I finally hit a pot at bingo yesterday. It was for $100 but unfortunately I had to share with one other and that neither Ruby nor Glenda. A $50 return for a $7 investment is still a happy occasion. Glenda came out about $45 for the day and we had free steaks and shrimp at the Boulder Station Buffet. The greatest part of the whole deal was the fact the Krohn's we're with us all the way. Having good interesting folks to share happy occasions with makes them double enjoyable.

I felt a twinge of guilt thinking Glenda and I were like vampires as we sat there eating on blood money. We got the free complementary tickets by giving blood there several weeks ago to the Red Cross.

Today or not today, that is the question.

I think not. Surly everyone is as tried of the spewed words as I am struggling typing them. In my mind it's just not worth the trouble this morning.

The last line below has me confused and may have caused today's question. I really would like to do the honorable thing and suspect that because of the note's usual, no humorous nor interesting content, not is the most probable for that. I'll probably forget this in the morning, who knows. However, if you don't hear, don't fear! Just accept your blessing and have good days!

Bingo didn't work out again but we each got a nice cap. Rushed from the Sam's Town rotten cheating bingo parlor to The Fiesta Casino to meet up the Krohn's for the buffet. It was about the same as usual but I still ate too much. Year after year, the same old menu. One would think after four or five years cooking the same crap they could figure out how to spiff it up a little and improve it's taste. Not!

We left there to come home and pick the animals up. Took Tomi to the vet where he pronounced him without sickness. He said his bladder was empty so he must be going somewhere but I'm at a loss to say where. In this little old trailer there isn't many places that he could go without us noticing. And I've spent a little while several different days walking all over the house without shoes on trying to find a wet spot but found none. We feel better about the deal now anyway. The first visit to the vet was free too. That made things double good.

Today will most likely find us out on the town I'm afraid. At least I've heard Glenda saying how nice it would be to visit the Palace Station, The Ho, and she mumbled something about a free afternoon show on Thursdays at Sam's Town. The Ho is a small local casino behind the Westward Ho. I think they just call it the Ho.

The book reading hasn't been going too well. Can't get into it for some reason. I've had spells like that before and they usually pass in three of four days. I was able to knock out "Reckless Abandon" by Stuart Woods and just about finished with "Unlucky In Law" by Perri O"Shaughnessy and about a third to half way through the other three books. I sure do like the Perri O"Shaughnessy books as well as those by Woods. Perri O"Shaughnessy books are authored by two sisters. Isn't that amazing.

No better time than the present to send an email..........Well, earlier would have been better but I got involved in making a birthday thing.

We've made an appointment for this afternoon for Tomi to see a vet. He doesn't act sick or anything, he eats just fine, drinks water and all but he just doesn't pee! It will be a hassle to get him there but we've got to do what we've got to do.

We've also got to hit the Sam's Town bingo parlor because they're giving a fee cap with each session. Neither of us wear caps but we probably know someone who does. Free will cost us about $7 each but there is a chance in a trillion that we'll be paid to take them. I think we have both won at bingo but the memory doesn't stretch that far back to be certain. Maybe this will be the day. Free buffet there too. Plus free chocolates at Barley's.

Now you have a good day!

Little Ole Tomi

February 22, 2005

Well I got five replies in regard to the temperature in Missouri yesterday. One told me that at Union Missouri it was 70 degrees, at Mexico it was 61, I lost the one from Jeff City but it was in that range, another told me that it was 71 at the lake then the last one said it was 79.3 at Springfield, but then yesterday morning it was back down to 43.3 there. All of the highs seem decent enough for us! The 43.3 wasn't as good but after all that's Missouri.

We did! We did! We stayed home yesterday leaving only to return a book to the box out front of the closed Library. A tasty little breakfast, a tasty little lunch and a real good helping of leftover country ribs with a salad for supper.

Yep, it rained most of the day making it a good reading day that could have seemed like Missouri but the nice current books we're reading will probably never be seen in the Eldon Library.

Mikey and I did make it to the desert in-between showers but his most interesting news must have been diluted somewhat by the rain because he didn't tarry much. Tho he did take time to leave a big pile, I guess it's possible that he just had to go but it was in a far different spot than usual so it could have just been his opinion on what he had or had not picked up in his quick survey of the little bit of news that was left. He did paw the ground afterwards and that might have been an angry salute.

The girls are heading out for their day after while. Meanwhile, back in the jungle, of us three Glenda's pets, one will do the inexpensive thing and just laze around reading a couple of free library books while the other two will mostly sleep. Unless I'm forced to take Tomi to the vet. He didn't go again yesterday or last night.

Rain here this morning and I think off and on for the whole week. Makes me feel at home. I read where the high in Missouri yesterday came within a degree or two of breaking the record high for that date. Unfortunately it didn't list the temperature. The highs forecast for here today and the rest of the week are all in the lower 50's.

We didn't go anywhere yesterday.........What a nice day it was too. Looked like rain most of the day but we were too busy watching the race to notice. I did brown some more country style ribs on the grill, ($1.00 per pound), then Glenda finished them in the oven. Pretty tasty and cheap! What more could a man ask for? Also we've enough leftovers to last us another couple meals. I'm in hog heaven!

Glenda didn't watch the race as intently as I did and kept me feeling a little selfish or unnecessary as she washed clothes, ran the sweeper in every room, cooked, dusted and washed the dishes as I just sat there stupidly watching the boob tube. A couple of times I did get up to ask her if there was anything I could do. There wasn't, but my having taken the time to ask relieved my conscience somewhat.

I don't know what is on the list for today but I'm thinking stay at home again sounds awfully good.

We've been worrying about Tomi, he hadn't urinated for the past three or four days and the vet was going to get a call today but guess what....He did it last night! He was feeling his oats this morning too.

Yep, we made the rounds yesterday. A back pack at the Fiesta, that is really a shoulder pack but it's nice. Five buck each at the Joker's Wild then a nice sweatshirt at Sunset. It was rainy weather wise but a fair day overall and I'm glad the stay-at-home day is here now.

No one is ever out of words but I've got a problem in putting any of them together to make a understandable sentence or phrase leaving me the options of a 'copy and past' from somewhere else or just signing off.

I'm going to do them both! Copy and paste first then sign off by clicking send.

TAXES: SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT ----How Taxes Work....

This is a VERY simple way to understand the tax laws. Read on - it does make you think!!

Let's put tax cuts in terms everyone can understand. Suppose that every day, ten men go out for dinner. The bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this.

The first four men-the poorest-would pay nothing; the fifth would pay $1, the sixth would pay $3, the seventh $7, the eighth $12, the ninth $18,and the tenth man-the richest-would pay $59.

That's what they decided to do. The ten men ate dinner in the restaurant every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement -- until one day, the owner threw them! a curve (in tax language a tax cut). "Since you are all such good customers," he said, "I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily meal by $20." So now dinner for the ten only cost $80.00.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes. So the first four men were unaffected. They would still eat for free. But what about the other six-the paying customers? How could they divvy up the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his "fair share?"

The six men realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would end up being PAID to eat their meal. So the restaurant owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same proportion, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.

And so the fifth man paid nothing, the sixth pitched in $2, the seventh paid $5, the eighth paid $9, the ninth paid $12, leaving the tenth man with a bill of $52 instead of his earlier $59. Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to eat for free.

But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings. "I only got a dollar out of the $20," declared the sixth man, but he, pointing to the tenth. "But he got $7!". "Yeah, that's right," exclaimed the fifth man, "I only saved a dollar, too, ........It's unfair that he got seven times more than me!". That's true!" shouted the seventh man, why should he get $7 back when I got only $2? The wealthy get all the breaks!" Wait a minute,"yelled
the first four men in unison, "We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!"

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up. The next night he didn't show up for dinner, so the nine sat down and ate without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered, a little late what was very important. They were FIFTY-TWO DOLLARS short of paying the bill! Imagine that!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and college instructors, is how the tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up at the table anymore. Where would that leave the rest? Unfortunately, most taxing authorities anywhere cannot seem to grasp this rather straight- forward logic!

February 19, 2005

A weekend is not a couple of days rest for retired folks. It's just about like every other day for us except the meal prices are raised at all the casino's which means we eat at home. Another exception is that usually on Saturday, free gifts are offered at several of the casino's to lure suckers in. That makes at least part of our weekend a pretty busy, hustle around, kind of day. We can't let a free gift slip past us no matter what it costs!

Tomorrow may be another 'stay at home' day for us. May be for us is there because who knows what lurks in the heart of a woman? It will be a 'stay at home' day for me for sure.......I think. I sure do want to watch the NASCAR Daytona 500 race.

I did stay home yesterday while Glenda picked Aunt Ruby up and they gallivanted off into that westward lure. I understand that they gave several casinos a chance at them and of course the casinos took advantage of the situation. Glenda got home, not completely whipped but she wasn't making any wisecracks nor singing as she limped in. It was pretty much still like that when she came to bed too. This morning, as all mornings she and I both got up to a new world with yesterday's disappointment not given a second thought.

Glenda did get up with a pain in her left shoulder but we're thinking she lay wrong sometime during the night. Or she says it could have been caused by the many stressful moments she spent yesterday sitting in front of the video poker machines hoping something big would rack up after the next push of the button. Anyway the pain is kind of heavy on her mind right now but surly it will go away soon. That hopeful occasion just giving her another something to look forward to.

February 18, 2005

Yesterday was a good day only saddened by the need to tell the Las Vegas visitors goodbye. But, we had to do it so now we're left with the need to look at the positive side of life for our happiness. I suppose having a relatively healthy life is enough positive to carry us if we think about it.

Me losing at the machines is a negative but Glenda is winning and that is a positive. Total that and you'll see we have two positives with only one negative. Glenda is feeling really good about the positives but believe me, the two positives aren't enough to right my wrong! I do like the life, but asking Glenda for money and seeing her snarl her nose at me as she grudgingly hands me a dollar bill doesn't make for a very happy occasion.

I'm thinking she can use my card and hers too, for the free money at Sunset and at the Fiesta that is on the list for today. She may make us a little money as I set here reading a book. I really feel sure that she will divide it up when she gets home. This way I have a chance of winning without the common element of possible/probable loss being involved for what little is left in my pocket. Also, under these circumstances, I don't think Glenda will snarl as she shares a few of our won dollars.

February 17, 2005

Yesterday was and today is. Hopefully a better day than what was. We met the folks on the strip and as far as I know the 'st' should be removed from the name. It's more like a big long rip! The places there just take your money and leave you without any perks. I know you can't expect many perks for five bucks but don't you think they could let you win a dollar or two? Not so there! It's, get out of the way we have more contributors lining up. Most are from other countries using USA money that was probably sent to their country for humane purposes. I don't know how these glitter eyed people ended up with the money but at least they're bringing it back to the good ole US of A.

This morning we're going to meet the group at the Fiesta for breakfast before they head back to Yuma. Three of them are from Missouri while the other two are from Oregon, all wintering in Yuma. All SEEM TO BE very nice FOLKS. We've enjoyed being with them. It is entirely our fault that we chose to lose money while enjoying their company. But shoot, it was worth it! It could be that the mellow feeling while knowing how lucky we are to be with friends, causes us to think the luck extends beyond that. It didn't but we're not unhappy about the luck we had anyway.

As the back problem eased up a little yesterday and became less the center of my attention I was able to note a whole passel of other muscles clamoring for the acknowledgement of their past plight. I think I gave that to them but they must have been a little ticked about the lateness of it because they're still causing a little ruckus within me this morning. I've always thought I had plenty to look forward to but what the heck, I'll just add sore free muscles to the list.

Don't part with your illusions. When they are gone you may still exist, but you have ceased to live. ~Mark Twain

I got carried away this morning, checking out some things on the computer. Did you ever wonder what exactly they did in doing an autopsy. Well the link tells you and it isn't a gory thing either. This place took a little of my time but it was interesting.

Yesterday was great! Got a lot done helping Carl at trimming bushes in his back yard. I seem to have used some muscles that doesn't usually get much of a workout. They are showing a bit of their dissatisfaction this morning. When I bend over they make themselves known as well as when I move while lying down, standing or sitting in a chair. They're just about seven inches above being a real pain-in-the-ass. I'm comfortable with the idea that I can work it out but it's not worth the pain at this time. Yeah, they're in my lower back.

We're going to meet the Truesdell's, Ruthie and another couple from Yuma at the Frontier this morning so I've got to get.........

February 15, 2005

Now we've awaken to this morning's sun,
let us not gamble but still have some fun.

Yesterday wasn't a very pleasant outing for me, I got carried away. Glenda held her ground tho, and brought a little extra money home. As it is I'm not going to be in a casino today so it's looking up for me. I'm going over to help Carl trim his trees and bushes while Glenda and Ruby go out on the town. I like to work when I want to and that is what I get to do helping Carl. The only problem we've had in the past was him trying to pay me. If you accept pay it becomes a job and I don't want a job! Beyond that, what if he decided I should pay him for taking care of this place in our absence. He wouldn't even accept reimbursement for a water leak he discovered and had repaired. I owe, I owe and they don't have enough chores for me to even things out!

Before we left to meet the Krohn's at the Sunset for our very expensive free buffet I did make the 3.5 mile trek along the golf course but only found four golf balls. I must be walking faster because it only takes a couple or four minutes over an hour. I walked before, at a pretty constant three miles per hour which always put me back in an hour and about ten minutes. Who says old age slows you down?

We received over an inch of rain last weekend and now the forecast is for more of the same the latter part of the week with a chance for showers this evening and tomorrow afternoon. Can you believe we had 92% humidity here on Sunday? It has sure rained a lot so far this year and during November and December of last year. It was said that the area has experienced unnatural weather conditions for the past three months. That happens to coincide with our arrival here. Hummm. I guess we brought a little Missouri with us.

Well, if I had anything informative or interesting to say I'd type it. I think it's lucky that I could bluff it this far. I feel I shouldn't punish me or anyone else any further so here is the end.

NEWS FLASH! Glenda and Ruby aren't going after all.

The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain. ~Dolly Parton

February 14, 2005

Little old Mikey struggled to drag the heavy Sunday newspaper in yesterday. He does it for a tiny treat and as a favor to us so we can read the latest news. For some reason he decided he wanted to check his sources in the desert for his latest news before I could even open the paper. I'm of the belief he gets more news than the newspaper contains. Either that or he is a very slow reader. I've noticed some thing are a lot more interesting than others but I have no idea of what or why.

We had supper at home last night and it was delicious. Better than any of the meals we eat out and tho the meat cost $5.25 it was still a good deal cheaper than the free buffets. I think the cling clang of all the machines in those places cause a temporary loss of ones mind. When the mind is gone, so soon is your money. So far we've been able to regain control before that happens completely and I do think we're building somewhat of a resistance to the curse.

Glenda did do the 3.5 walk with me and Glenda did not go to any casinos after we got home. I'm working on her taking the walk again with me tomorrow. Just before we got half way she said, "Larree, I've got a little hurting in my left hip". I asked her if she was such a wimp that she needed to rest awhile. Of course she didn't after I said that! She made it all the way just fine. Well, when we got home she needed to return a call to Aunt Ruby but she said she had to wait until she quit panting. She says this morning that the pain is still in her hip.

The boys from Missouri came by for a visit yesterday. One has a job in the building of the Red Rock Casino and the other hopefully expects to be called out on Tuesday. To where he has no idea and doesn't care. I think his job today, after a visit to the hall, is look for an apartment on the north side of Vegas. They've been staying at the Railroad Pass.

February 13, 2005

Not a whole lot shaking here this morning. A good nights sleep helped to bring up the level of the big old nearly empty storage hole where the v's and the z's are stored. (Vim and Vigor/Zeal and Zest). I believe it helped Glenda's flagging source too. She has agreed to make the 3.5 mile walk with me this morning. I think her winning a little bit of money yesterday plus my not losing any tended to help a bit there too.

Today is a stay at home day and I'm really looking forward to it. Of course Glenda reserves the right to change that if she should so desire. I wouldn't bet any money on it either way. However I'm positive if I can get her to take the complete walk today my chance of staying home will improve greatly. She isn't used to the walk and from experience I know she will be pretty worn out.

If I could think of anything worth typing I would but I can't so I won't. One two paragraph failure is enough for one day.

February 12, 2005

In the wee hours of every morning the cat,(Tomi), gets to wanting a early morning snack. He usually gets it by pushing on one of the sliding closet doors. It has a little slack in the track and when he pushes on it and lets go it bangs. After a bang or two I or Glenda usually get up and put him a small handful of his food in his bowl in the other room. Then we close the door to the bedroom to keep him out. This trick has worked for him a long time but this morning around 4:00 a.m. we both ignored it. That was a mistake, he took a more drastic action. He jumped right on to the middle of my prone body. That sealed the deal good.

After taking care of the chore and shutting the door sleep didn't seem to want anything to do with us so we turned on the TV. Watching that tube and some of the broadcasts sure did depress me. I know that I don't measure up in many areas but this morning it was bought to my attention my absolute inability to appreciate fine art. "The Gates" were being promoted this morning. A work of art that took 26 years and an estimated 21 million dollars of the artist's own money to complete. What a sight those 7,500 gates were. Really a waste comes to my, stuck in lowly tiered un-aristocratic mind. My lack of measurement all hurt but my inability to appreciate art dealt me a terrific blow.

The display will only be up for 16 days but they're expecting somewhere around 80 million tourist dollars to be spent in NY as the normal folks that know how to really appreciate art come boiling in to walk the park and admire the gates.

I feel so inadequate! The only thing that I've found to lessen my pain is one part of a sentence from an article I found on the Gates. "The calculated hucksterism is off-putting to some critics, who contend "The Gates" doesn't really meet the dictionary definition of art anyway." It doesn't help much but every little bit counts. Woe is me!

We're wishing no woe for you in your day!

February 11, 2005

The Buffet at Railroad Pass was free last night but we stayed awhile afterwards waiting for Mike to come in from his new job. That wait changed the price of the buffet somewhat. On top of that the offerings weren't very good either. We still have some two for one coupons but we've ran out of points so that's the end of that. I sure wouldn't pay their $7.99 fee even if we did get two of them for that price.

It has been pretty nice around here lately. I believe the birds think it's spring because they have started stacking up. I saw a three stacker yesterday. I could have felt sorry for the poor guy in the middle but he didn't seem to mind. I guess the added action just created more jig for his jigging and besides if you're going to dish it out you might expect the possibility that someday it may be dished out to you.

The beautiful mating calls of the Dove and the California Quail aren't! They were kinda nice for a day or two but Geez! Day after day after day, it losses it's appeal. That may only apply to humans at least it does to me. What an aggravating sound! Do you think they shut up to mate?

A pretty good rain going here this morning. Two tenths already and it's forecast to continue through then day. It's not just water over the bridge yet but some of the streets in Las Vegas and Henderson will be flooded.

A nice day to lay back with a good book but we've got to visit the Fiesta for some free playing money, the Joker's Wild for a free gift, Sam's town for a free gift and Station Casino for yet another free gift. If we don't play at any of the stops I'd sill haft to admit none of it is free, just prepaid for at another time.

Mikey wouldn't make it as a mailman! Through rain and snow he won't. This morning he tried to pick the paper up but after only a small effort to get it in his mouth with the rain banging him on the back he gave it up. I had to go down and move the paper under the overhang to get him to bring it in. A fair weather helper is all we have here.

Well another message that really isn't. The least I/we can hope for is with the practice they might improve.

February 10, 2005

Lest you might possibly think we spend all of time in the casinos, taking walks or just out running around, let me tell you. I usually read books three or four at a time, not at the same time but read one for awhile till something causes me to switch books. I don't know why but I like reading that way. Switching from one to another doesn't let you become too bored with any one book too.

I've just finished "Bury the Lead" by David Rosenfelt, along with "Misdemeanor Man" by Dylan Schaffer, "Ten Big Ones" by Janet Evanovich and "The Devil's Right Hand" by J.D. Rhoades. I enjoyed everyone of them!

Now I've got four more books checked out to read. They are, "The Motive" by John Lescroart, "Cold Case Squad" by Edna Buchanan, "Hoax" by Robert Tanenbaum and "Unlucky In Law" by Perri O"Shaughnessy.

I started keeping a list of books last year about this time because I kept picking up books that I had read before. Anyway the list has 77 books listed that I've read. So you see we don't spend as much time doing all those previously mentioned things as you might have thought.

Glenda doesn't read quite as many but alas, she hasn't been keeping a list and the last visit to the library found her bringing home a book that she had already read.

We do have a free Buffet coming this evening at the Railroad Pass but for the most part of the day I think we'll be staying home.

February 9, 2005

I think Glenda had a nice day out but she didn't bring home as much money as she had when she left. I, on the other hand, had the very same amount when I went to bed as I did when I got up. I think I enjoyed the day about as much as Glenda did too.

I thought we would stay home again today but I got a hint that we may do the buffet at the Fiesta. If you pay with points it's a two for one day.

If we play bingo at Sam's Town there is some kind of give away but I haven't heard the decision on that yet.

I'm just proud to be able to do what I want.......that is if Glenda agrees.

February 8, 2005

Well, yesterday we drove over to Sam's Town to get our free $5.00. I gave mine back to the crooks in record time and was even conned into adding a five of my own. Glenda, unfortunately did about the same but she took a lot longer in doing it. I don't mind sitting around watching her play. On the way out we each stuck a dollar into a penny machine and took turns pushing the button. You know, just double checking that our luck was rotten. It was! Lost that in a flash. Got home really early and enjoyed a home cooked meal. Over all, a nice day was my summarization..........Money isn't everything!

Home is where my heart is and by George that is where it and the rest of my body is going to be today. I may do the walk but I've got a couple of good books and some peanuts and I won't be forced to put up with a blaring TV so I'll be in hog heaven.

Glenda and Ruby are going to do their day out. I think they've decided to make the first stop the Railroad Pass where today is two of one for the older folks. Seventy five cents for toast, hash browns and a couple of eggs doesn't sound too bad. After that I'm not privy to their plans. I suspect they haven't planned past breakfast and just plan to go with the flow.

February 7, 2005

YIPPEE! We've been granted another day! Now what we make of it is almost entirely up to us. Even at that some folks will have a bad day as some will have a good day. Some may even have a very good day. That last one is what we've got our sights set on. A gun will shoot low when sighting uphill and high when shooting downhill. We may hit a little higher than very good because we're on the downhill side of life.

Yesterday was very enjoyable with the visits, the food and the ballgame ending like it did. Everyone here kind of wanted the Patriots to win but Glenda, she didn't care which team won. We didn't think it was quite proper for all of us to root for the same team and it being Glenda didn't care, we assigned her to root for the Eagles. It was still a bit one sided but we felt better about it, especially when we won. Poor Glenda was the only loser in the bunch and she did a lot of cooking and fixing for the lot of us. Maybe she'll get her reward at the casinos when we make it back to one. I'm not too whipped up about going anywhere today. Unfortunately I have only one vote to Glenda's two. How that ever came to pass I'll never know.

I took the walk yesterday and only found four golf balls. I'm thinking I'll walk up the hill and down the road that boarders a different golf course today to give some time for some balls to land along my regular route. Looking for golf balls is about as exciting as looking for mushrooms and you needn't worry about the ticks, chiggers or sprout slaps. The paths are paved and there isn't large hills to go up and down just a good grade or two. The only real negative is you can't eat the golf balls.

So be it as it will or influence your day toward the very good.

February 6, 2005

Yesterday was a lot like the day before so what do I have left to say? We got all of our free stuff, paid for it, and after a poor showing at the Joker's Wild video poker tournament came home.

The neighborhood watch meeting was really attended. Enough that we had to sit way in the back against the rear wall where we could hear the speaker on the microphone okay only if.................enough of the attendees would choose to listen at the same time. Too bad so many just came to visit and that caused a lot of us to just sit looking stupid as I usually do in a crowd. Okay, okay, as I usually do period. The hearing aids are really good but the closer speakers come thru the loudest. Sitting at the back there were many speakers between me and the supposed to be speaker. I finally had to give it up. As Glenda say's it's just as well, I didn't miss anything very important. So I'm thinking, if I had been there trying to hear, I still would not have missed anything important.

Another one of those real nice 'stay at home' days is upon us. Glenda is cooking a turkey for sandwiches and snacks for this afternoon's TV rendition of the Super Bowl. Can you believe that the NFL can tell the casinos what size TV they can and cannot show it on? How can that be?

We're looking for the Krohn's and Mike to come help us reduce the size of turkey leftovers to be, and to watch the game with us on our TV. I hope that won't be breaking any laws.

It's OK to let your mind go blank, but please turn off the sound. ..........And/or stop typing!

February 5, 2005

Yesterday the free gift at the Sunset was $3.00 as was the free cash at the Fiesta. That $12 would have made the trip worthwhile but the prospects of doubling or tripling that was just too much for we weaklings................Well, we did enjoy ourselves!

Today there are gifts at both places. I think it is drinking glasses of some kind at Sunset and a wristwatch of some kind at Fiesta. In spite of it all I suspect we'll probaby make the trudge.

Zeal, what a terrible thing to lose! I know this for a fact. It can be a lot like your youth, slipping away just a little at a time until all of a sudden you realize it is almost all gone. Both of these have been being sucked away from me for some time now. Time is the rascal that caused the youth to go but I'll be darned if I know the reason for the zeal's absence. I may not be able to recoup my loss of youth but by golly the zeal can be replaced and I'm going to work hard at it. I stayed up pretty late last night reading but still got up early. That could be a contributing factor but, until I can get a tiny bit of it replaced, type to you later.

February 4, 2005

Our continued inability to keep our pocket books closed when we stop at the casinos for a free buffet caused the one at Sam's Town yesterday to pretty well be paid for. We turned in an inquiry received in the mail as to whether we would like to get our offers via the internet and received 5000 point each for doing it. It looks like another expensive free buffet there is in our future.

Today the weather here will be something to brag about with a forecasted high of 66. Of course the damn wind forecast of 10 to 15 mph this afternoon will pretty well kick the brag down several notches on the scale but even a tiny brag is many times better than a complaint.

Glenda's calendar has us down for a free gift at the Sunset, some free playing cash at the Fiesta and a humble meal of leftovers at home. Who knows? It could turn out that the free providers will pay us for picking up the freebies. Believe it or not they have a few times in the past. It hasn't been that often but the memories of winning stay a lot longer than the ones of losing. Wonder why that is? It's probably that the losing days are so common as to be rum-drum so that the rare happenings of winning create an aurora and a blessed feeling that is near impossible to forget. I've had those feelings but I can't quite explain them but it's something like that. I suppose just the word happy could have sufficed?

February 3, 2005

Another wonderful day has been allotted to us and we aim to use it. I don't know how just yet but we're not going to just lay around and pine away!

To the library is pretty high on my list then the long walk I'm sure will be pursued. The wind is to be between 5 and 20 mph which causes the walk to be more like a feat of self imposed torture but 'a little pain to thwart a larger gain' stays heavy on my mind.

The free buffet at the Fiesta yesterday turned out to cost us a bit more than we like but it wasn't too bad. The worst thing was the stop at the Magic Star to get our free 500 points for giving them our email address. I don't believe the points were worth that cost! Well, I did win before I lost.

It may be we'll visit Sam's Town this afternoon. If we can just eat the free buffet and keep our hands in our pockets it will be good. It would also be an unbelievable happening!

February 2, 2005

Not a thing on our plate for today except maybe a buffet at the Fiesta because it is two for one if you use your points. That will cause a few coins to be inserted into a machine or two. A free meal has got to be paid for you know.

Glenda misplaced her luck yesterday and barely scraped by on her weekly trip with Ruby. She said they played a couple sessions of bingo at the Fiesta but luck was bad at their table. Sitting across from them was a black fellow that wouldn't hardly shut up. At the end of one game he told Glenda that he only needed one number but the wrong number was called. Glenda looked over and showed him that he had already had the bingo. He didn't call it at the time so he was unlucky with his luck too.

Yesterday I decided to take the walk but the wind with up to 50 mph bursts blew me off course and caused me to turn back toward home after about a mile. It's an evil wind that blows no good! It was good to get home so I guess there was no evil to it.

Febuary 1, 2005

We like it out here in spite of the wind. It is said we can look for winds of 10 to 20 mph here today. With that and the forecasted high of only 58 degrees will really put some oomph in ones step.............If one should chose to take a walk. Personally, I haven't made that decision yet.

You would think there would be no end to what treasures could be found in a 3.5 mile walk but it hasn't been all that profitable for me yet. The three best walks were the one where I found a quarter, the one where I picked up 26 golf balls and the one where I found the abandoned bicycle in the desert that we got for Tyson. Hopefully it will result in being a health improver and a weight loser but both seem about the same to me. I suppose without the walks, I would be a lot fatter than I am now, I don't know.

Glenda and Aunt Ruby are heading out today for their weekly jaunt. It is a shopping, gambling and eating out kind of deal. They seem to look forward to it. I don't mind it either. I'm not going to play any machines anymore anyway and eating out for me usually means a buffet and those things steal my control from me. Overeat, overeat! I'll be able to retain a little money and a big part of my control just by staying home!
