Yippee! A holiday weekend. A time for some to completely forget the job and attempt appeasing their desires for pleasure at whatever the cost. Most without much regard for those lying in or anywhere near their path toward that selfish goal. Most likely the majority of those eager beaver's will awaken Tuesday morning with half a hangover still throbbing in their heads, accompanied with sore muscles and a painful sunburn. On the way to work, in some pain and sitting on their flattened wallet they'll be trying to convince themselves that a great, happy and wonderful time was had by all. Yes, this I know for I have been there or at least very close.
While they report to their jobs, those poor folks near the great flash of life that whizzed by during the weekend will be down repairing docks and cleaning things up as best they can lolling happily in the knowledge that the worst is over for several months.
Because gratification of a desire leads to the temporary stilling of the mind and the experience of the peaceful, joyful Self, it's no wonder that we get hooked on thinking that happiness comes from the satisfaction of desires. This is the meaning of the old adage, "Joy is not in things, it is in us." -Joan Borysenko
